ITS AZ is hosting a free webinar/technical session on July 13th, 11 AM to 12 PM.
Topic: TRAFFIC SIGNAL TIMING: THE COMING REVOLUTION
Speakers: Reggie Chandra, Ph.D, PE | President and CEO | Rhythm Engineering
Reggie Chandra is the founder and CEO of Rhythm Engineering. Reggie has been practicing traffic engineering since 1993. Most of his career has been in the public sector prior to Rhythm Engineering. Under his leadership, Rhythm Engineering has introduced game-changing traffic signal optimization models such as In|Sync and code|GREEN.
TRAFFIC SIGNAL TIMING: THE COMING REVOLUTION:
This decade has made autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence available to the common man. CPUs are giving way to GPU’s. Flip phones have given way to smart phones. Yet, we aren’t seeing any major breakthroughs in the way we develop and implement traffic signal timing.
Existing timing optimization models such as PASSER II, TRANSYT-7F, Synchro, etc. use a modified form of Webster’s delay equation developed in the 1950s. The Achilles’ heel of all these models is that they are based on the incorrect assumption that vehicles arrive at a uniform rate and depart at a uniform rate. Subsequently the models use a corrective term for delay to rectify the wrong assumption. While this model worked well for us in the pre-computer era, new models and methods are essential to optimize traffic signal timing.
This presentation will give a brief overview of the existing signal optimizing models and introduce a game-changing and practical way of developing and deploying traffic signal timing.
This is a free webinar/technical session.
