ATSSA is hosting a great virtual pilot course for Traffic Signal Architecture.  Below are the details and how to register!

Register for the virtual “Traffic Signal Architecture Training” pilot course
Oct. 28, 2021, 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET (8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. MT)

ATSSA’s new Traffic Signal Academy is developing a variety of courses focused on traffic signals. Register now for the pilot course, to be held virtually on Oct. 28.

This four-hour course is designed to provide an overview of the inner workings of a traffic signal cabinet and the connected technologies. It covers cabinet architectures, controller styles and detection technologies, as well as emerging technologies such as those provided for connected and automated vehicles. The presentation includes examples of the various styles of cabinet architecture and controller types to provide students with understanding and recognition when inside a traffic signal cabinet assembly. It also provides information on maintenance needs and requirements for equipment.

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe the requirements for certification through new ATSSA’s Traffic Signal Academy
  • Discuss the various traffic signal cabinet assembly architectures and controllers
  • Identify the various styles of architecture that work in each cabinet type
  • Define the requirements for connected-vehicle-ready signal hardware upgrades
  • Compare analog and digital architectures, including how the controller interfaces with the cabinet components
  • Discuss detection technologies for actuated operations
  • Describe connected vehicle technologies related to traffic signal operations (models, tools, data collection and dissemination)
Instructor: Matthew Weisman, P.E. is a traffic signal expert with both public and private sector experience. Mr. Weisman conceived, designed, built and managed the award winning ITS Advanced Traffic Management System in Gainesville, Fla. He teaches several courses on traffic signal systems and operations.
