Plan Review Coordinator – Streetlight Design Manager

The Street Transportation Department is seeking a Plan Review Coordinator – Streetlight Design Manager to oversee the Streetlight Design Section in the Traffic Services Division. This section is responsible to manage the mid-block streetlight program, CIP streetlight design review, streetlight special projects, and coordination with new development streetlight installations.

The Plan Review Coordinator – Streetlight Design Manager responsibilities are:

  • Management and oversight of the Streetlight Design Section.
  • Provide management and oversight of the Section’s operating and CIP budgets.
  • Contract procurement and management.
  • Plan reviews and field reviews.
  • Project design and construction estimating.
  • The mid-block streetlight program.
  • Utility permit, and issue resolution.
  • Community meeting participation.

This position will report directly to the Traffic Engineering Supervisor and be expected to exercise a high level of autonomy in managing and directing the operations of the Section. The Plan Review Coordinator – Streetlight Design Manager will receive technical guidance and support from the Traffic Engineering Supervisor managing the Traffic Design sections. This position will supervise two staff which include a Project Manager and Civil/Traffic Engineer II.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Familar with streetlights for design, plan review, maintenance, and construction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of experience in the practice of civil engineering.
  • Lead or supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering degree.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Traffic Engineer III

The Streets Transportation Department is seeking a motivated and dedicated Traffic Engineer III.  This position involves the application of professional traffic engineering knowledge and skills to a variety of engineering functions including design, construction, operation, and maintenance of traffic signals, traffic signal systems, street lighting, signing, striping, work zone traffic control, and/or related traffic management activities including managing a Traffic Management Center (TMC).

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing very difficult and exacting assignments relative to planning, designing, analyzing data and information on traffic engineering projects.
  • Managing staff that study traffic engineering problems and develop plans for improvements.
  • Designing plans for safe control and flow of traffic.
  • Investigating complaints. 
  • Answering complaints from the public.
  • Conferring with department and division heads on mutual and related problems.
  • Speaking on traffic engineering subjects to interested groups.

Considerable independence and latitude are allowed in determining methods and procedures to complete projects. Currently, there are multiple vacant positions within the Streets Transportation Department. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Familiar with traffic signal operations/timing or with street lighting design.
  • Familiar with traffic signal, signing, and pavement markings design.
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements relating to signalized intersection design and operation.
  • Knowledge of the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the Arizona Supplement.
  • Familiar with streetlighting design.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of experience in the field of traffic engineering.
  • One year at a senior traffic engineering level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, including courses in traffic engineering or transportation engineering.
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona, obtained by the end of the probationary period (one year).
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
