The ITS Arizona Board is in the process of organizing a number of schools and teachers throughout the valley that are interested in having professionals in the engineering industry come talk to their classes. Last year, this school outreach was a tremendous success and conducted mostly during Engineers Week in February. This year, schools have opened up career days throughout January and February and we are looking for volunteers to get kids excited about technology, engineering, software, and transportation!

The classroom visits are anticipated to include an introduction to engineering and the ITS field and a hands-on activity to connect to the engineering process. We have go-by materials to work from to help you with your visit.

We are calling on those involved in the ITS or transportation community to visit a classroom in your area of town on the day of your availability to help participate in classrooms to celebrate Engineers Week in February.

Currently, the opportunities are as follows:

  1. Highland High School – January 15 (next Wednesday) – 7:30am – 12:30pm – five 20-25 minute sessions with classes that rotate to visit you as you share your story
  2. Greenfield Junior High School – mid-February TBD – same structure as Highland High School listed above

We are looking for a minimum of two volunteers for each location to step up to go show some elementary, junior high, or high school classes how cool engineering is and how they should follow in our footsteps! We will send out a call for volunteers as other opportunities arise.

We have everything prepped for what to do when you volunteer in a classroom, just need professionals like YOU in the technology/engineering/transportation industry to go represent!!!

Who will volunteer? Please email deanna.haase@kimley-horn.com directly by January 13th (next Monday) and let’s find a classroom that fits your availability!
